Discover the Reasons for Memory Loss

By: Greg Frost

Memory loss may begin innocently by misplacing your car keys or an inability to recall simple things such as your grocery list. With some effort, memory loss is not inevitable and can be prevented by taking preventive measures. The first step is in identifying the possible causes of memory loss. Amongst the common causes of memory loss are trauma and smoking.

Stress
Emotions such as stress and anxiety make it harder for your mind to learn, and are one of the symptoms of overworking your mind. The human body has defense mechanisms built in to protect itself, and these emotions could be a possible cause of memory loss as your mind is being overworked. In order to deal with this, make an effort to give your mind a break. You will find that you are able to remember more easily when your mind is alert and well-rested. This allows you to pay greater attention and commit more to memory.

A positive amount of stress will provide you with drive, whilst excessive levels of stress can make learning more difficult. When your mind is under excessive stress, it may result in memory loss as your mind has too many things to cope with, and contrary to popular belief, may not be a symptom of dementia. For pregnant women experiencing stress, the child that is born may face learning difficulties as it affects the part of the brain that is related to memory.

Amnesia
Amnesia occurs when one’s memory is affected, due to either organic or functional causes. Brain damage through physical trauma or diseases is a common organic cause, whilst functional causes include psychological elements such as the body’s defense mechanisms. Traumatic amnesia occurs due to head injuries, with the period of memory loss related to the degree of injury. Psychogenic amnesia, an example of a functional cause of amnesia, is an adaptive response that enables children to cope with trauma by repressing memories, thus allowing them to maintain an attachment to someone that has abused them.

Dementia
Dementia is a cause of memory loss due to old age. Depending on the extent of dementia, it may be reversible if it is in its early stages. Common identifiers of dementia include changes in the character of the person suffering from it and delirium. Dementia can be detected and cured through regular blood tests which identify cues to doctors. This allows for the prescriptions of folic acid, calcium, vitamin B12 etc.

Money will be spent and forgotten, but memories do live on. Above are some of the causes of memory loss, so take note and take action so that you can circumvent memory loss. Act now to ensure that your memories are preserved!

Choose Fruit and Vegetables for a Healthier Lyfestyle

By: Jim A. McDonald

Salads are a healthy alternative to fast foods and greasy take-away. People form bad eating habits due to laziness, and opt to eat fatty foods which are low in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Kicking these nasty habits will see a decrease in your belt size and a nice saving of money. Buying fresh fruits and salads are far cheaper than buying take away food for lunch and dinner every day.

Many franchise owners are opting towards healthier menus to choose from. Such as Sumo Salad, fresh sandwich bars, and fruit bars. Giving the customer a choice of healthy take away as apposed to unhealthy take away is a definite advantage. With obesity on the increase, more and more people are choosing a healthier diet and a healthier lifestyle.

Fruit salad is a healthy and extremely nutritious dish. Rich with many vitamins and minerals, fruit salad is a healthy alternative to sweet and sugary desserts. Many variations such as yogurt and custard can be added to make fruit salad delicious. There’s nothing more refreshing than sitting back on a summers day with fresh pineapple, banana, berries, apple, melons, kiwi fruit and grapes toped with yogurt.

Sometimes it is difficult to persuade kids to make healthy choices when eating. They will eat anything from noodles to chocolate, crisps, candy and other junk food but as soon as fruit and vegetables are mentioned they shy away.

It would be safe to say that more time is spent trying to get children to eat the vegetables then it took you to prepare the meal, always ending in tears. Involving the children in the cooking process and sometimes lead to them eating the meal of their own accord. Vegetable pasta dishes are perfect for kids because the vegetables can be disguised. Get your kids to help you make the dish. That way they are taking responsibility for their own healthy eating.

Always reward the kids when they do eat their veggies. Fruit salad and ice cream will work a treat.

So why make a healthy change and incorporate fruit and vegetables in your diet today.

Including fruit and vegetables in your daily diet will do your body wonders. A major benfift when including fruit and veggies in your diet is weightloss.

What You Should Do If You Have Acne Scars

By: Cindy Heller

It is believed that nearly everyone will suffer from acne breakouts at one time or another, mostly in the midst of teen years. Although some of these acne conditions will clear on their own after some periods of time, the effects of the breakout can last a lifetime in the form of scarring. For some people, acne scarring is as embarrassing as the acne itself. In order to solve this problem, doctors and dermatologists have conducted many studies to develop an effective acne scar treatment. The result, there are many acne scar treatments available today.

Topical products for acne scars

There are many topical products that you can choose for your acne scar problem. Many of these products contain a low dose of Benzoyl Peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide penetrates below the surface of your skin to dry up the oil that causes acne breakouts and thus preventing acne scars from happening. However, since Benzoyl Peroxide has such drying characteristics, it is best if you apply it sparingly. If you notice your skin is peeling in areas where you applied a cream containing Benzoil Peroxide, you should reduce the use of that cream. It also has been known to cause an allergic reaction to some people.

Chemical treatment for acne scars

Many dermatologists and plastic surgeons perform chemical peels as an outpatient procedure to remove acne scars. Most people have this procedure done to refresh their skin and remove the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but it has also been found that it can help reducing the affects of acne scars.

The process is quite simple. It involves the application of acid to the uppermost layers of your skin. The purpose is for the doctor to burn your top layers of skin in a controlled manner. The top layers are lifted away, leaving the fresh and glowing lower layers exposed. When the damaged layers are removed, the appearance of acne scars is drastically reduced as well.

There are some common side effects as some people react badly to the acidic chemicals used for the procedure and others simply do not like the idea of burning their skin. If you decide to have a chemical peel as a treatment for acne scars, you should choose only a qualified doctor to perform the procedure. Never have this procedure done at a spa or other non medical facilities.

Surgical treatment for acne scars

While surgery is an effective acne scar treatment option, it is not always suitable for everyone. When determining whether this is the right treatment for you, you should explore a few factors. First, you need to understand your feeling towards the acne scars. Are you scars something that affect your life significantly in terms of your relationships and the way you see yourself? If the answer is yes, then perhaps surgery is a good acne scar treatment that you should use. On the contrary, if you are willing to live with your scars and wait for them to fade over time, then you can skip this surgical option.

Your dermatologist will also have an opinion as to whether surgery is a suitable acne scar treatment option for you. This evaluation will usually take into consideration the extent of your scarring and your overall health. If your dermatologist agrees that a surgical procedure will be a good and suitable acne scar treatment for you, then the next step will be to decide which treatment it will be.

There are several surgical acne scar treatments available today, and these include procedures like collagen injections, dermabrasion and laser treatments. In some extreme cases, skin grafting can become a part of the acne scar treatment program. Most of these treatments are considered outpatient procedures so you will not stay overnight in the hospital when you choose these procedures. However, many also need multiple or recurring treatments to maintain their effectiveness. If you are greatly troubled by the presence of acne scars, any of these treatments can effectively remove the scarring, leaving you with clearer, smoother skin.

As with any surgical procedure, these treatments for acne scars are invasive and should only be performed after you understand the pain, cost, and risk involved. If you determine that a surgical treatment for acne scars is the right path for you, then you should do your homework and find a plastic surgeon with a good reputation and lots of experience in this matter.

It is believed that nearly everyone will suffer from acne breakouts at one time or another, mostly in the midst of teen years. Although some of these acne conditions will clear on their own after some periods of time, the effects of the breakout can last a lifetime in the form of scarring.

Are You In A Tennis Slump? The Psychology Of Slumps: Avoid Them and Perform To Your Potential

By: Bill Cole, MS, MA

Slumps. We’ve all been in one at one time or another. You can’t perform to your potential, you seem to be having a perpetually bad day, and nothing you do helps extricate yourself from its deadly grip. Slumps are not fun.

What Is A Slump? A slump is any decrease in performance, over time. A slump can have mental origins or many other causes. Let’s see why you have slumps and how to avoid them.

How Do You Get Out Of A Slump? My Top Five Tips.

1. Be Clear About Your Definition Of A Slump. Make sure the slump you are in is a real one. If you assume you are slumping after one bad performance, you are far too quick to judge yourself so harshly. A good working definition of a slump would be a series of poor performances.

2. Don’t Let People Talk You Into A Slump. Some people love to tell you that you are in a slump. They think they can see that slumping pattern you are in. Don’t let them be negative around you. Make up your own mind about your performances.

3. Check All Non-Mental Causes Of The Slump. Make sure you cover all bases on diagnosing the reasons for the slump. There can be numerous tactical, strategic, physical and other causes, some of them quite subtle, yet easy to fix. See a coach for a complete diagnostic checkup.

4. Stop Trying So Hard. Slumps are very frustrating. They can drive you crazy. They can make you exert more and more effort. From a performance psychology standpoint, only a perfect amount of effort gives great results. Too little effort and your performance can fall flat. A slump brings out too much effort in an effort to defeat the slump. Relax and try softer, not harder.

5. Get Some Coaching. A qualified, experienced coach can guide you through a slump by seeing what you can’t see and by having the experience to know what interventions will make the biggest impact. In fact, seeing your coach when you are playing poorly can be one of the very best times to go, because the coach can help you figure out how to de-bug your game under real game conditions.

What Should You Do Next?

Make sure your definition of a slump is a clear one and don’t assume you are in one before it is truly there. Have a slump plan ready to go and take concrete, positive action should the slump rear its ugly head. Stay one step ahead of the slump and you’ll keep your performances soaring.

This article covers only one small part of the mental game. A complete mental training program includes motivation and goal-setting, pre-event mental preparation, post-event review and analysis, mental strengthening, self-regulation training, breath control training, motor skill training, mental rehearsal, concentration training, pressure-proofing, communication training, confidence-building, breaking through mental barriers, slump prevention, mental toughness training, flow training, relaxation training, momentum training, psych-out proofing and media training.

Dahn Yoga Helps Improve the Health of Self and Others

By: Larry Rosenberg

Courses in yoga, the union of body and mind, continue to increase in popularity in the United States. Many different yoga systems are available, although they usually share the features of stretching, posture, breathing, relaxation and meditation.

While most Americans think of yoga as coming the Indian cultural or Hindu traditions, there is a yoga with more-than-5,000-year-old roots in Korea, In its modernized holistic fitness training version, 30 years old, it is called Dahn Yoga and can be learned and practiced at the 120 Dahn Yoga & Health Centers in 15 metropolitan areas of the U.S. Sister Dahn organizations operate in Canada, South Korea, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia and Brazil. Worldwide, there are 600 centers, with around 1,000,000 people using Dahn Yoga and related Brain Education methods daily. The originator of Dahn Yoga is Ilchi Lee.

Dahn Yoga is an integrated body-mind-brain system of exercises for improving the body’s health, the mind’s capability, and the spirit’s connection. From practicing Dahn Yoga, the results tend to be individual health. But it is natural for Dahn Yoga practitioners to share what they have learned, directly or indirectly, with others – family, friends, workplace, and community.

Here is a prime example of the dual set of benefits – self and others – that Dahn Yoga often produces: Linda is in her early 50s, a school teacher in the Midwest. She started to exercise at a Dahn Yoga Center in the Midwest, originally becoming a member to make her middle-aged body more flexible. But soon she found out that Dahn gave her many more benefits.

Hypnosis and Mind Control

By: Dan Eitreim

Hypnosis is safe, effective, has no deep or long lasting side effects and is easy to learn. It's a simple, mind control exercise in which the hypnotist induces a state of complete physical and mental relaxation. This state of relaxation focuses our minds and allows us to communicate suggestions to the subconscious - which is what hypnosis is all about.

Hypnosis is commonly thought of as a trance where the hypnotist has complete mind control and can make us do anything he wants. This is totally false. It's a stereotypical idea promoted by Hollywood in the cheesy (but great) horror films of the 1950's and 1960's.

Other common misunderstandings are that we can be forced to do things we normally wouldn't do, or that we can get "stuck" in a state of hypnosis or that the hypnotist will not be able to bring us out of the trance. All baloney.

Imagine that you are in a car and driving down the road. You are going somewhere that you've been many times before so, you don't have to worry about the directions. You are driving a familiar route, seeing the same familiar sites, hearing the same familiar sounds.

Nothing unusual is happening. It is so normal, so ordinary that your mind starts to wander. You start thinking about your day. Conversations you've had, problems you've dealt with, problems that still remain.

All of a sudden, you realize that you've driven past your destination and are several blocks or even several miles beyond.

That was an example of hypnosis. Twice! First when you focused your attention on your problems and not driving or on the world around you - hypnosis. Secondly if you were actually visualizing that scenario, I actually became a hypnotist and exerted a little mind control. I hypnotized you into visualizing what I wanted you to visualize. See how it works?

M%20and%20M%20direct300x250.gifHave you ever been reading a book, watching a movie or a television show and gotten so caught up in the plot that you were totally unaware of your surroundings? Has anyone ever been talking to you and your mind wandered off. Finally they got your attention and said something like, "Where were you? Your mind was a million miles away!" That's self-hypnosis.

As you can see, it is a natural state, completely safe and that we all visit every day with no side affects.

In going to a hypnotist or a hypnotherapist, they will use same sort of mind control. the only difference being that the hypnotist will be giving direction to your daydreams…so that you can get some benefit from them.

Hypnosis has been repeatedly tested in clinical trials and found to be effective at helping people to change and improve. It's been used to help the hypnotists' subjects: stop smoking, improve golf games, learn to deal with stress, lose weight, overcome lifelong fears and phobias, improve concentration and study skills and more.

8 Tips To Boost Energy And Conquer Tiredness.

By: Ollie Relfe

Never before have we been so exhausted and stressed, caught on a relentless treadmill of commuting, grabbing a sandwich at our desk, dinner slumped in front of the TV set, then catching up on work in the evening before collapsing into bed to start the whole grim routine all over again. Small wonder then that increasing numbers of us constantly feel physically and mentally drained or lacking energy for a large part of the day.

The older we get the more frequently these feelings of tiredness and lethargy occur, and our energy levels are in much need of a healthy boost to keep us in an optimum state of alertness and concentration throughout the day.

Here are a few simple energy boosting tips to conquer your tiredness and recharge your batteries.

1. Eat a healthier balanced diet - a poor diet can be one of the main causes of chronic fatigue. Eating a healthy and nutritious breakfast meal will provide your body with a constant flow of energy throughout the morning. Eating a high protein lunch containing only a small amount of quality carbohydrates will sustain your energy levels throughout the afternoon. Avoid high carbohydrates like pasta and white bread because they produce sleep inducing hormones which are often the main causes of afternoon lethargy and bloated feelings.

2. Fresh air - being confined in an enclosed room for long periods and starved of fresh air has the effect of slowing us down. If it is not possible to open a window, take short breaks every few hours throughout the day, and go for a brisk walk outside while taking deep breaths to rejuvenate the body system.

Guide to problem solving

By: sulamita berrezi

How many times have you caught yourself saying that there could be no other solution to a problem – and that that problem leads to a dead end? How many times have you felt stumped knowing that the problem laying before you is one you cannot solve. No leads. No options. No solutions.

Did it feel like you had exhausted all possible options and yet are still before the mountain – large, unconquerable, and impregnable? When encountering such enormous problems, you may feel like you're hammering against a steel mountain. The pressure of having to solve such a problem may be overwhelming.

But rejoice! There might be some hope yet!

sky%20broadband%202008

With some creative problem-solving techniques you may be able to look at your problem in a different light. And that light might just be the end of the tunnel that leads to possible solutions.

First of all, in the light of creative problem-solving, you must be open-minded to the fact that there may be more than just one solution to the problem. And, you must be open to the fact that there may be solutions to problems you thought were unsolvable.

Now, with this optimistic mindset, we can try to be a little bit more creative in solving our problems.

Number one; maybe the reason we cannot solve our problems is that we have not really taken a hard look at what the problem is.
