WONFIFTY

Ok, so today I’m feeling slightly less stupid and veering more along the ‘You’re the one with the issues…’  (which I’ll tell you about when I’m feeling more gracious and objective) route. Darn it!

Not to worry, I’m playing tennis this evening and I have been looking forward to it for so long, you wouldn’t believe! As a child I used to be really good at sports, more importantly I used to really enjoy playing them (much more than the academic side of things) that is, until my parents’ decidedly unimpressed attitude towards my sporting triumphs descended into sporadic lectures on its irrelevance in the real world. Shame, because I was actually bloody good at a lot of them.

Well, I ‘ve not played any sport for many years during which time I’ve (unsurprisingly) succumbed to the lure of alcohol and cigarettes. A decade on and the party is well and truly over. I’ve realised that watching Venus Williams or Justine Henin coming back from the brink of defeat to win a grand slam is a lot more inspiring. It conjures up positive feelings of my own sporting achievements…so I’m getting myself out there.... purely for enjoyment, to rekindle my love affair with the sport I’ve truly missed for so damn long.
