Jamaica, NY - From a grim youth as a concentration camp prisoner to a dedicated humanitarian sharing messages of hope; Inge Auerbacher's story is remarkable. Born in Kippenheim, Germany, Ms. Auerbacher was imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp in Czechoslovakia in 1942 at seven years of age, and was liberated in 1945. In 1946, she emigrated to the United States and has since lived in New York City.

After enduring unthinkable hatred and oppression, Ms. Auerbacher transformed her horrific past into a message of love and acceptance through her lectures, books, songs, and films. Ms. Auerbacher's focus is on the positive - on what we all have in common and how we should respect each other. Her lectures, given throughout New York City and beyond, include topics such as:
• The Holocaust through the eyes of a child survivor.
• Beating all odds - overcoming prejudice, a deadly illness and rejection.
• We are all God's children - celebrating diversity and tolerance for other ethnic and racial groups.

For her humanitarian efforts, the New York City Hall of Fame inducted Ms. Auerbacher into its first class of honorees. Her photo and a brief bio are on the nychalloffame.org website along with the other inductees. The purpose of the NYC Hall of Fame is to honor remarkable New Yorkers who have contributed to the betterment of our City and will, in turn, serve as role models for our children.

Ms. Auerbacher graduated from Queens College with a B.S. degree in chemistry and worked for 38 years as a chemist. She has been the subject of documentary films and has authored I Am A Star, Beyond the Yellow Star to America, Finding Dr. Schatz, and Running Against the Wind. In addition, Ms. Auerbacher has written many published poems and lyrics of recorded songs.
